Katie Lyle & Catherine Telford Keogh

Soft Ground is a collaborative experiment by Katie Lyle and Catherine Telford Keogh. Presented in low horizontal trays, weathering bodies of drawings and materials become oatmeal for curious birds. These contained sites offer a bridge between their work, exploring a shared interest in material states, fragmentation, preservation and re-generation.

The physical and imaginary lines drawn on land or around objects are forever undone by the volatility of materials, temperature and climate. The time-based work invites a cross-contamination between contingent materials and their physical environment. Remaining on the rooftop for two weeks, the trays will be exposed to rain, sun and heat, elements that are further exaggerated in the elevated setting.

Catherine Telford Keogh lives and works in New York. Working primarily in sculpture and installation, her work is concerned with fantasies and promises embedded in objects that breakdown through an amalgam of material relations and biological processes. Selected exhibitions include Helena Anrather, New York; University of Waterloo Art Gallery; Galeria Fidelidade Arte, Lisbon; Canadian Cultural Centre, Paris; Bronx Museum, New York; Seattle Art Museum, Washington; and Thkio Ppalies, Cyprus. Telford Keogh received her MFA in Sculpture from Yale School of Art and MAR in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies from Yale University.
